If you are into bicycle racing and like to have a good time, then there is a spot for you at the Newton Bike Shop on Dec. 13 starting at 7 p.m.

The shop is hosting its annual customer appreciation event, but this year it is quite a bit bigger than years? past, according to Shop Manager James Barringer, who said they wanted to blow it out this year and really have a good time.

The event is in celebration of the Ride The Divide Race, a treacherous bike ride from Canada to Mexico down the Rockies, which is one of the toughest races in the world.

At the bike shop there will be beer, provided by Walnut River Brewing Company, food, and the music styling of blues band ?The Kentucky Gentlemen.?

If that isn?t up your alley, a movie about the race will be shown at Norm?s Coffee Shop at 8 p.m. in conjunction with the event.

Billy Rice, race record holder, will be hanging out at the event as will Mike Dion, the ?Ride the Divide? movie creator and producer.

?We will be giving away a lot of signed stuff and swag at the event, too,? Barringer said. ?We just want everyone to have a good time. It will just be a bunch of good people all getting together.?

While the event is free, you must bring a ticket to enter. Tickets can be found in Newton at Karen?s Kitchen, Prairie Harvest, The Bread Basket, Norm?s Coffee Bar, and Newton Bike Shop. They are also available at the Coneburg Inn in Peabody.

If you are unable to go to any of these establishments to get one, simply clip out the ticket printed with this article and bring it along for entry.
